HOUSTON (September 25, 2013)--Divers have recovered the body of a missing teenager from a Houston bayou where a pickup truck went off the road and into the water during a heavy rain last weekend.
Authorities at first thought the 18-year-old had a 17-year-old passenger, but the Harris County Sheriff's Office said the driver was alone in the pickup.
Houston police tentatively identified the victim Wednesday as Eric Cabrerra, 18.
Witnesses saw the pickup veer off the bridge late in the night on Sept. 22 as a driving rain pounded the area, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.
The truck was found about three hours later
Divers were unable to search the bayou the next day because of swift currents and debris.
Sgt. Doug Hudson estimated the level of the bayou was up to 20-feet deep at the time of the accident.
The body was found in a bend of White Oak Bayou.
