Body Parts Found In Texas Landfill Were Medical Waste

PORT ARTHUR (September 30, 2012)--Various human body parts that were illegally dumped in a Southeast Texas landfill are believed to be from legitimate medical practices such as amputations, police say.

Workers found about 15 body parts Friday in the Port Arthur city landfill.

Sgt. Scott Gaspard said the parts appeared to be "lower extremities."

They were inside of a bag that was ripped open.

Investigators are trying to determine which medical or waste removal company dumped the bag.

Authorities do not suspect foul play.

Port Arthur Police Major Raymond Clark said the case is being treated as a biohazard incident and said the medical waste should not have been disposed of at the landfill.
