MOFFAT (August 8, 2012)—A man whose body crews recovered late Tuesday night after a two-hour search of Lake Belton was identified Wednesday as Michael Jackson, 61, of Temple.
Jackson was fishing with a friend Tuesday evening near Leona Park when their boat developed a mechanical problem, authorities said.
As the two men worked on the boat, Jackson told his friend he was ill and then collapsed.
Moffat Fire Chief Hal Pagel said Jackson ended up in the water and the other man wasn’t able to pull him back in.
The Moffat Volunteer Fire Department and Scott & White EMS responded to the call at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Water rescue teams from Morgan's Point Resort Volunteer Fire Department and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were assembled at Leona Park after the man could not be found.
Another fisherman towed the first boat back to the ramp at Leona Park and searchers were able to gather more information about where the stranded man might be.
Jackson’s body was found on the shoreline about a mile north of Leona Park.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No autopsy was ordered and the death was ruled natural.
