Body Found Along Tracks Identified As Missing Texas Amtrak Passenger

KNOBEL, Ark. (June 20, 2012)--A body found near railroad tracks in northeast Arkansas has been identified as that of a Texas man who disappeared after leaving San Antonio aboard an Amtrak train bound for Chicago, authorities said.

What investigators don’t know is how or why Andrew Haukereid, 79, left the train.

He was traveling from his home in San Antonio to Chicago to celebrate his birthday.

Clay County Sheriff Gerald McClung said a medical examiner identified the body by matching a gold tooth to Haukereid's dental records.

The sheriff says he does not suspect foul play, but says the cause of Haukereid’s death is still undetermined.

Haukereid boarded the train on May 19 and was last seen later that night in Little Rock.

His body was found Saturday along train tracks near Knobel.
