Bomb Squad Called After Suspicious Device Found In Local Home

HARKER HEIGHTS (April 19, 2014) The Fort Hood bomb squad was called in Saturday after police discovered a suspicious device in a house in a Harker Heights neighborhood.

Organized crime unit officers discovered the device early Saturday afternoon in a house in the 200 block of East Valley Road, Harker Heights police Chief Jack Collier said.

Officers checked the house where the device was found and the houses on either side of it to make sure no one was home and then secured the area.

No evacuations were ordered, but the 200 block of East Valley was closed to traffic.

By 6:00 P.M. Harker Heights Fire Department Chief said the the scene was wrapping up.

Blasting caps were found on a container that was filled with an unknown liquid.

The Fort Hood Explosive Ordinance Device Team had rendered the device inactive.

Units began clearing the area shortly after.
