MARLIN (December 10, 2012)—A bomb threat that led to the evacuation of Marlin Elementary School Monday afternoon was traced to a jail inmate in West Texas, police said.
Authorities were in the process of seeking an arrest warrant charging terroristic threat for the inmate late Monday afternoon, Marlin police Detective Rob Douglas said.
The inmate's name and the jail from which the call was placed were not immediately released Monday.
Police say it’s likely it was just a prank call, but say they haven’t ruled out the possibility he may have some tie to the school.
They traced the call to the inmate through his phone card.
After the threat was called at around 2:15 p.m. Monday students were moved to Marlin High School about two blocks away.
Older students walked to the high school and younger students were loaded aboard buses for the short trip.
