EDINBURG (November 6, 2012)--Border Patrol agents in South Texas have rescued 14 illegal immigrants and found the bodies of seven others during a run of hot weather over the past week.

The National Weather Service said temperatures in the region were expected to be in the upper 80s again Tuesday.

A Border Patrol statement Tuesday said agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector in fiscal 2013 so far have saved 75 people and have recovered the remains of 30 others.

Officials say the rescues mark a nearly 110 percent increase over a year ago.

Immigrant deaths are up more than 340 percent.

Last Thursday Border Patrol agents rescued two Mexican nationals near Falfurrias.

Another immigrant was rescued last Wednesday near Rio Grande City and treated for dehydration.

Other efforts saved 11 more people.
