Students Killed In Crash On Texas Campus Identified

HUNTSVILLE (December 15, 2013) Authorities have identified three students who died and a fourth who was injured in a one-vehicle crash early Saturday on the campus of Sam Houston State University in Huntsivlle.

Blanca Espinal, 19 of Houston, Eric Torres, 22 of San Juan, and Alfonso Mata, 20 of Brownsville died in the crash.

Thomas Roling, 23, of The Woodlands, was injured.

He was taken first to Huntsville Memorial Hospital, but then was later transferred to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, where he was listed in good condition.

The accident happened at around 5 a.m. Saturday.

Officers who responded found the the car in which the students were riding resting against one of the university buildings.

“Our Bearkat Family is deeply saddened by the loss of our students in this tragic accident," said Sam Houston State President Dana Gibson in a statement Saturday.

"Our hearts go out to their family and friends during this difficult time.”

The accident, which is still under investigation, took place on graduation day.

A moment of silence was observed at the beginning of the event.
