WACO (July 10, 2014) A carjacking Thursday afternoon in a Waco neighborhood came to an abrupt end when the man who took the car wrecked the vehicle shortly after he took it and was arrested.
Waco police were sent just after 1 p.m. to a residence in the 1100 block of Calumet Avenue after a woman reported the carjacking, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
The 64-year-old victim drove to a home on Calumet to visit a friend Thursday afternoon and as she got out of her Buick LeSabre, a man approached, pushed her to the ground and then jumped into the car and sped off.
The woman suffered minor injuries to her wrist, arm and knee, which paramedics treated at the scene, Swanton said.
A short time later a patrol officer who was assisting on the call spotted the car near the 1700 block of North 4th Street.
At about the same time, the stolen car, which Swanton said was being driven recklessly, struck another vehicle and then crashed into a tree near the Cameron Park Zoo.
The carjacker saw the officer approaching and ran, but was captured after a short chase.
Ramon Sajar Jones, 22, was taken to the McLennan County Jail.
He faces several charges including robbery, criminal trespass and evading arrest, Swanton said.
