TEMPLE (August 4, 2014) Temple police closed a portion of State Highway 317 at Trailridge Drive Monday morning after cement spilled onto the roadway as the result of a truck crash.

Temple police were sent to the scene just after 8:15 a.m.in response to a report of the crash involving an 18-wheeler and a cement transport truck, a Temple police spokesman said.

The 18-wheeler was westbound on Trailridge and the cement hauler was northbound on Highway 317 at the time of the crash, police said.

An initial investigation showed that the driver of the rig failed to yield to the cement truck, police said.

The impact dislodged the cement drum and spilled two to four yards of wet cement on the highway.

A Temple Fire & Rescue HazMat unit also was sent to the scene to deal with a fuel spill that resulted from the accident.

The driver of the cement truck was taken by ambulance to Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital for treatment of what police called minor injuries.

The highway was cleared by around 11:30 a.m. Monday.
