Central Texas Family Found Safe After Home Burns

COLLEGE STATION (September 27, 2012)—A College Station woman and her three children who decided at the last minute to stay with a relative after watching movies escaped harm when their house just across the street went up in flames.

Frantic relatives searched for Tranika Montgomery and her youngsters as their home burned.

They found them when they pounded on the door of Montgomery’s aunt across the street.

That’s where Montgomery, her 13- and 8-year-old daughters and her 5-year-old son had gone Monday night to watch some rented DVDs.

Montgomery said her children fell asleep so they all just stayed over.

Authorities are trying to determine what caused the fire, which broke out early Tuesday.

Montgomery's house and car were destroyed.

The American Red Cross has offered help.
