BELTON (January 22, 2013)—Darrell Wayne Parker, 42, who’s charged in the deaths of his mother and stepfather, confessed to killings and said he shot the couple five days before the bodies were found, according to an arrest affidavit released Tuesday,

Parker remained in the Bell County Jail Tuesday, charged with one count of capital murder in the shooting deaths of Charles and Cathy Youngblood whose bodies were found on Jan. 15 in their rural Bell County home.

He's held in lieu of $1 million bond.

In a written statement, Parker said he shot the Youngbloods on Jan. 10, the affidavit says.

That was one day after his stepfather's 63rd birthday and was the last day the Youngbloods were seen alive, the Bell County Sheriff’s Office said earlier.

Parker was seen driving a grey Chevrolet Trailblazer that same day and told a neighbor his parents gave it to him.

Acting on information provided by neighbors, deputies arrested Parker on Jan. 16 at a home in Little River-Academy, where the couple's missing grey Chevrolet Trail Blazer was found.

Deputies found the bodies on Jan. 15 inside the couple's home at 13127 Willow Grove Rd. after responding to request for a welfare check from a Temple Daily Telegram reporter who knew the Youngbloods and was concerned because she hadn't been able to reach them.

The Youngbloods, who both were shot repeatedly, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Autopsy reports released Tuesday show that both were shot in the head and that Cathy Youngblood, 63, was shot more than once.

Charles Youngblood was a former head football coach at Evant ISD.

Youngblood also coached at Carver Middle School in Waco from 2003 until January 2009, district spokesman Dale Caffey said.

He left Waco to join the Beeville ISD, Caffey said.

From 2000 to 2002 he was a special education teacher in the Belton ISD, the district confirmed, and from 2002 to 2003 he worked for the Lorena ISD.

Cathy Youngblood had worked at Texcell Credit Union in Temple for more than 15 years.

Her supervisor, Amy Merriman, remembered her as an exceptional person liked and respected by all of the staff.

She was named staff member of the quarter in the second quarter of 2012, Merriman said.
