BRYAN (February 8, 2013)—The punishment phase got underway Friday in the capital murder trial of a Central Texas man convicted of killing the mother of his ex-girlfriend in an attack a few weeks after the couple broke up.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Stanley Wayne Robertson of College Station, who had a history of abusing his girlfriend.
Robertson was convicted Thursday of capital murder in the August 2010 stabbing death of Annie Mae Toliver, 59, who was was abducted from College Station and later killed.
Robertson was arrested after his vehicle hit a Fort Worth police car as he attempted to elude officers.
Toliver’s body was found in a Fort Worth parking lot.
Police said Robertson was charged earlier with assaulting his ex-girlfriend Tammy Toliver and he called her after the slaying to say it was her fault that he killed her mother.
