LIMESTONE COUNTY (January 10, 2014) An elderly Limestone County man died Tuesday, evidently of exposure to the extreme cold, and his body was partially eaten by his dogs, authorities said Friday.

Deputies were sent at around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday to a property on Farm-to-Market Road 339 near Christmas Creek where they found Carl Batt, 82, dead inside his barn, Limestone County Sheriff Dennis Wilson said.

Neighbors told deputies Batt had been living in the barn and had no heat.

Limestone County Justice of the Peace Ray Jones pronounced Batt dead at the scene, but said he did not order an autopsy.

Jones said Friday he has not yet ruled in the death and said the case still is under investigation.

Wilson, however, confirmed Friday that dogs ate a portion of Batt's body.
