Central Texas Teenager Fights For Life After Weekend Accident

By: Sylvia Villareal, KBTX-TV

CALDWELL (January 7, 2013)—A Caldwell teenager was fighting for life Monday in a Houston hospital after he was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday night.

The crash at around 8:45 p.m. Saturday in Burleson County near Lyons shut down traffic on FM 60 East for about two hours.

Department of Public Safety Trooper, Sgt. David Adkins said Christopher Schultz, 16, was driving east at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle, which veered into the path of a westbound Dodge truck.

Schultz suffered a serious head injury in the crash.

He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan where he underwent emergency surgery and then was airlifted to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.

Adkins says the two people who were riding in the pickup were not injured.

They were wearing seatbelts, but Schulz was not, Adkins said.
