Central Texas Women Charged In $3.4 Million Health Care Fraud Probe

HOUSTON (December 6, 2012)—Yolanda Nowlin and Carla Parnell, both of Bryan, have been indicted in a health care fraud investigation involving nearly $3.4 million in bogus claims, federal prosecutors announced Thursday.

Federal prosecutors in Houston said Nowlin and Parnell were arrested on Thursday on charges of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, health care fraud, conspiracy to pay kickbacks and theft of government money.

Investigators say Nowlin owned Yellabone Medical Equipment Inc. in Bryan and Parnell was its office manager.

The seven-count indictment was returned Nov. 28 and unsealed Thursday.

Both women from Bryan face initial court appearances.

Prosecutors say the billing and kickbacks scheme involved operations from mid-2003 through 2009.

Investigators say the women submitted fraudulent claims to Medicare and Medicaid and were paid more than $1.1 million.
