Central Texas Crime Spree Suspect Accused Of Double Slaying

TEXAS CITY (February 2, 2012)--Dominique Alonzo Stokes of Galveston, a suspect in a Central Texas crime spree, is now accused of a double slaying in Texas City.

Stokes is also accused of home invasions in December in Austin and Temple.

Stokes is a suspect in a home invasion on Dec. 4 in the 3400 block of Antelope Trail in Temple where a man forced his way into a residence, displayed a handgun and tied up the two residents before taking items from the house and stealing the victims’ vehicle, which was recovered a day later in Beaumont.

Stokes was in the Travis County Jail on Thursday with bonds topping $2.3 million.

Texas City police Wednesday served capital murder warrants on Stokes in the Nov. 21 fatal shooting of Jorge Vargas and his daughter, Miranda, 15.

The Galveston County Daily News reported that Stokes was arrested Dec. 9 in Austin in a stolen vehicle.

Police said ballistic tests on a gun Stokes had matched a pistol used in the killings.

Stokes faces multiple counts, including kidnapping, aggravated robbery, drug possession, and parole violation.
