WACO (September 16, 2011)-A Waco man, who’s originally from Gatesville, turned himself in Friday morning at the McLennan County Sheriff's Office in connection with cattle thefts in four Texas counties.

Trenton Dale Saulters, 26, faces three felony charges of theft of cattle in Erath, Gillespie, Rains and Johnson counties.

Saulters was released from jail Friday afternoon after posting a $70,000 bond.

Marvin Wills, special ranger for the Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers' Association, said the charges stem from the purchase of cattle at auction sales that were paid for with hot checks.

"That's cattle theft," Wills said.

Wills said the total value of livestock purchased with the hot checks amounted to more than $164,000.

Saulters was charged earlier with three counts of theft in Johnson County and was free on $110,000 bond at the time of his surrender Friday, authorities said.
