Chain-Reaction Crash Behind Local School Bus Injures 5

By: Paul J. Gately Email

CORYELL COUNTY (September 19, 2012)—Five people were injured late Wednesday afternoon in a chain reaction crash behind a school bus that was stopped on State Highway 36 southeast of Gatesville.

No one on board the bus was injured in the accident, which involved a Mazda SUV, a Chevrolet sedan and a Chevrolet pickup truck, Department of Public Safety Trooper Jackie Ford said.

Ford said the driver of the Mazda was stopped for the bus and the driver of the Chevrolet sedan was in the process of stopping when the pickup, whose driver evidently didn’t see the bus and the other two vehicles in time, slammed into the rear of the sedan, which in turn hit the SUV.

The highway was closed to traffic in the area of the accident until early Wednesday evening.

The names of the victims weren’t immediately released and information about the severity of their injuries wasn’t available Wednesday evening.
