GREENVILLE (July 19, 2011)--Two caregivers were charged Tuesday in the death of a 2-year-old boy whose battered body was found Sunday in a car in North Texas.
Arturo Vega, 23, and Gabriela Ortiz, 22, both of Campbell, were charged Tuesday.
Ortiz was one of the victim’s cousins, authorities said.
The body was found after the two called 911 Sunday morning to report the child had stop breathing while they were driving to a hospital.
Hunt County Undersheriff Joe Knight said the boy suffered massive blunt force trauma and evidently had been dead for some time.
Knight says the death was reported in the Campbell area, about 50 miles northeast of Dallas.
