CALVERT (September 3, 2013)—A standoff that started late Monday night in Calvert after three men who fled from police holed up in a house, holding three residents hostage, ended early Tuesday with the release of the residents, but the suspects were able to escape.
The standoff started following a high-speed chase that started in Hearne when police tried to pull over a vehicle in which four people were riding including one believed to be named in felony warrants, KBTX-TV reported.
The chase ended in Calvert as the four suspects bolted from the vehicle.
One was captured, but was later released after questioning, KBTX reported.
The other three ran into a nearby home, where they took three family members hostage and the standoff began.
One of the residents was released at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and the other two were freed at around 7 a.m.
A SWAT team entered the home at around 10 a.m., but the suspects were gone.
Robertson County Sheriff Gerald Yezak told KBTX that one of the men in the group is believed to have been involved in the Aug. 16 armed robbery of The Bank and Trust branch on Highway 21 in Bryan.
It was the second bank robbery in a matter of weeks that was preceded by a carjacking in which the vehicle used in the holdup was stolen.
Police haven’t determined whether the two are connected.
