FAIRFIELD (December 14, 2013) A Freestone County pastor charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl in July 2012 is scheduled to go on trial Monday in Fairfield.

Anthony Lynn Thibodeaux, 37, still serves as pastor of the Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church and has been free on bond since his arrest in Limestone County on Aug. 10, 2012, Freestone County Sheriff Ralph Billings said.

Thibodeaux initially was charged with sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child, but it was not clear Saturday if the trial would present evidence on both charges.

Jury selection is set to begin Monday in Freestone County’s 87th District Court before Judge Deborah Oakes Evans, but because of the large number of potential jury members, court is set to meet in the Fairfield Community Civic Center.

The Freestone County District Clerk’s Office has summoned more than 350 potential jurors.

Thibodeaux was arrested after an initial investigation showed a woman, who is said to be Thibodeaux’s friend, lured a 15-year-old girl to her house and then watched as a man sexually assaulted the girl, an arrest affidavit says.

Freestone County District Attorney Chris Martin will prosecute the case and Thibodeaux is being defended by attorney Justin Reed.
