GALVESTON (June 11, 2014) The Coast Guard came to the rescue of a 12-year-old boy who was floating on an inner tube near Galveston when currents pulled him out to sea.
The crew of a Coast Guard helicopter spotted the boy Tuesday afternoon about 400 yards off Bolivar Peninsula.
The boy, whose name wasn't immediately released, was not hurt.
The boy was swimming with his family at Crystal Beach when he drifted out into the Gulf of Mexico and could not get back to shore, authorities said.
The Galveston County Sheriff's Office contacted the Coast Guard which sent a helicopter.
The crew lowered a rescue swimmer to help rig the boy, who was then hoisted aboard the helicopter.
A Coast Guard boat crew retrieved the boy's inner tube.
