Coast Guard Rescues 3 Off Texas Coast; One Still Missing

GALVESTON (December 2, 2010)—The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three shrimpers Thursday from the Gulf of Mexico and a search is on for a fourth crewmember who’s still missing after a commercial boat sank off Galveston.

The Coast Guard received the mayday call around 3 a.m. Thursday.

The crew of the Mario Arturo II reported the boat was sinking about 10 miles south of the Galveston jetties.

All four people aboard ended up in the water.

The Coast Guard says a helicopter was used to rescue three crewmembers who were flown to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

The conditions were not immediately available.

The missing crewmember was described as a man in his 40s, who was wearing yellow rain paints and a T-shirt.

The Coast Guard is trying to determine what caused the boat to sink.
