Coast Guard Rescues Missing Mexican Fisherman From Texas Beach

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND (February 6, 2012)--The U.S. Coast Guard plucked four Mexican fishermen missing since Friday from a South Texas beach Monday.

The Coast Guard said it was notified Saturday about the fishermen who had been missing since leaving Playa Baghdad, just south of the Texas-Mexico border, on Thursday.

They were due back at 7 a.m. Friday, but never arrived.

The Coast Guard joined the search Saturday.

The crew of a Coast Guard helicopter found the fishermen's 25-foot boat Sunday on the beach near the Port Mansfield Channel.

On Monday, a Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Corpus Christi spotted the fishermen waving from the beach about 11 miles south of where the boat was found.

The men, who were uninjured, were taken to the Coast Guard Station at South Padre Island and then turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers.
