CENTENNIAL, Colo. (July 23, 2012)—Colorado theater shooting suspect James Holmes, 24, was wide-eyed and unshaven as he sat staring down during his first appearance in court Monday.
He’s accused of the shooting rampage early Friday at a Colorado movie theater that killed 12 people and injured 58 others.
He will be formally charged next Monday.
Authorities say the former graduate student is refusing to cooperate.
The say it could take months to learn what led to the horrific attack on moviegoers at a midnight screening of the latest Batman film.
Investigators say they found a Batman mask inside Holmes' booby-trapped apartment after the attack.
Holmes has been held in solitary confinement since Friday.
Prosecutors said they may consider seeking the death penalty, but will make that decision after consulting with victim's families.
Holmes' hair appeared to be reddish-orange Monday morning.
New York City's police commissioner had said the gunman in the theater rampage had dyed his hair red and called himself the Joker, the villain from the Batman movies.
