Convicted Bank Robber Sentenced For 1999 Murder Of Texas Teen

TYLER (October 24, 2012)—Shams Masters, 34, a convicted bank robber, has been sentenced to life in prison for the 1999 slaying of a teenager in East Texas.

A jury in Tyler decided on the life term for Masters on Tuesday for the shooting death of William Young II, 18 after finding Masters guilty of murder on Monday.

An affidavit says Masters, who formerly lived in East Texas, believed Young stole money from his home during a Super Bowl party.

Masters was serving 17 years in federal prison in Colorado for seven bank robberies when he was returned to Texas this spring.

Masters must finish his federal prison sentence before serving the Texas sentence.

He must serve at least 30 years in Texas before he’s eligible for parole in the murder case.
