CORPUS CHRISTI (June 13, 2014) Ryan and Heather Sanders could have been sentenced to as much as life in prison after a jury in Corpus Christi convicted them of injury to a child by negligence and manufacture of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.
But the Nueces County jury deliberated two hours Friday before sentencing both to community supervision.
The Sanders were found living on a Texas beach with a newborn and three older children.
The couple’s daughters, ages 4 and younger, lived in a tent and were exposed to methamphetamine and the three older girls were malnourished, an affidavit said.
Defense attorneys are seeking probation, saying the father was unemployed and the mother had postpartum depression.
Their daughters are now with relatives.
