Crash Involving Three 18-Wheelers Closes I-35 Between Waco And Temple

By: Paul J. Gately Email

BRUCEVILLE-EDDY (November 1, 2012)--A three-truck wreck on Interstate 35 at about 3 p.m. Thursday left the northbound highway at mile marker 319 blocked.

Northbound lanes were closed between Bruceville-Eddy and Lorena and traffic was being routed onto the access road at exit 318.

The backup at 3:30 p.m. stretched for two or more miles, the Texas Department of Transportation said.

Traffic on the southbound Interstate was moving slowly.

TxDOT said the roadway probably wouldn't be cleared until around 8 p.m.

A Department of Public Safety trooper at the scene said three 18-wheelers were involved in the accident.

The trooper said the driver of the first truck stopped abruptly.

The driver of a second truck that was following the first swerved and the 18-wheeler jackknifed near the median.

Then the driver of a third truck served and that rig overturned.

The second truck was carrying a load of Justin boots and the third truck was carrying a load of auto parts, which were strewn on the roadway.

Bruceville-Eddy police Chief Billy McLean said two of the drivers were taken by ambulance to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, in Waco with non-life threatening injuries.

The third driver escaped injury.

An environmental company from Fort Worth sent a crew to clean up the fuel spill.
