ENCINAL (January 28, 2014) Three men were killed and another was critically hurt when the pickup in which they were riding slammed into an 18-wheeler that was stopped along State Highway 44 near Encinal in South Texas.
The accident happened Monday morning about 35 miles north of Laredo, the Department of Public Safety said.
Investigators are trying to determine why the pickup truck hit the rig, which was parked for repairs.
Three passengers in the pickup truck died at the scene.
The driver was taken to a San Antonio hospital.
David Trevino, Jr., 24, of Alice remained in critical condition Tuesday, University Health System officials said.
Ricardo Rene Tanguma of San Diego, 39, Adrian Trevino, 32, of Alice and Andres Hinojosa, Jr., 24, of San Diego died in the crash
