DALLAS (September 10, 2013)—Interstate 635 in northwest Dallas was open to traffic again Tuesday afternoon a dump truck jumped a median and struck several vehicles, killing two people.
Authorities initially said one person was killed in the wreck Tuesday morning, but Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans later told The Dallas Morning News that two died.
The crash backed up traffic for miles in both directions.
It wasn't clear what caused the industrial-sized truck to strike and then straddle the median, with one car caught under its front wheels on one side of the freeway and a second car trapped near its rear wheels on the other side of the median.
The two people who died were in the car that the front of the truck struck, Evans said.
