FORT WORTH (March 8, 2013)--DNA evidence has tied a 48-year-old man to the 1983 cold case killing of a businessman in North Texas.

Benjamin Bewley is a prison parolee who was arrested in November in a West Texas DWI case.

Jail officials in Abilene say Bewley was held without bond Friday on charges of driving while intoxicated and violating his parole.

He's now also facing a charge of capital murder.

Fort Worth pawnshop owner Melvin Lavine was shot to death in March 1983 during a robber at his home.

Police working the case sent DNA evidence to a federal database and recently confirmed a match.

Bewley was sentenced in 1992 to 20 years in prison for burglary and paroled in 2004.
