WACO (February 12, 2014) Department of Public Safety troopers along with officers from local law enforcement agencies from Bell County to Hill County were taking part Wednesday in intensive effort to catch traffic violators on Interstate 35.

DPS Trooper D.L. Wilson said the operation, which started at 6 a.m. Wednesday and continues until midnight, primarily targets construction zones along the interstate.

"Pretty much all of McLennan County, and Bell County, too, for that matter, is a construction zone," Wilson said.

Wilson said details on the number of stops, the types of citations issued and details about some arrests would not be available until Thursday.

"They (troopers and police) have made some arrests (for drugs), but I'm not sure about the amount of the drugs seized," Wilson said.

Wilson said several K-9 units, along with a DPS helicopter, were participating, along with marked patrol units from Salado, Belton, Temple, Troy, Lorena, Waco and Hillsboro.

By late afternoon, dozens of drivers had been stopped and cited, Wilson said.

Fewer than 10 arrests have been made, he said.
