WACO (August 24, 2012)—Two people were injured Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 35 in Waco that may have been caused by a large dead and very bloody dog in the middle of the highway.

The man and woman injured in the accident were riding in a pickup truck that collided with a car whose driver suddenly slowed down because of the dog’s body.

The pickup was then rear-ended by an 18-wheeler.

The two victims were taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center to be checked out, but were not seriously hurt.

Northbound traffic backed up for about mile from the scene of the accident on the bridge over North 18th Street.

Some motorists were alarmed by blood on the highway at the scene of the crash, which police said came from the dog and not the accident victims.
