WACO (November 4, 2013) A deer was struck and killed after it darted out in front of a startled motorist Monday morning on Bosque Boulevard in Waco.
The accident happened at North 35th Street and Bosque, near a creek bed that crosses under North 36th Street and Brookview Circle.
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said the animal may have gotten into the creek bed and wandered onto the street, but otherwise there's no way to tell where the deer came from.
"We had one hit last year at 5th and Washington downtown but 35th and Bosque seems an unusual place to have that happen," Swanton said.
A state game warden handed the young buck over to two men who were going to have it processed for the meat.
Swanton said that's better than wasting the deer by dumping it into a landfill.
The vehicle received only minor damage and the occupants weren't hurt, Swanton said.
