Hill County Sheriff Michael Cox said Michael Lee Rhodes, 24, and Danny Joe Weir, 27, were ordered held in lieu of $100,000 bond each charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony.

The two were arrested Monday in McLennan County after three determined deputies took limited evidence and worked until they were able to identify two as suspects in the home invasion Friday in Hill County

The two elderly residents were beaten and the man remained in a drug-induced coma Tuesday at an area hospital, Cox said.

The victim's names have not been released.

McLennan County Chief Deputy Matt Cawthon said a resident who was looking through a trash dumpster Sunday found a purse and turned it over to deputies.

The deputies were able to identify the purse's owner and realized it was a woman who, along with her husband, was severely beaten during a home invasion robbery early last Friday morning.

The purse ultimately led to arrest warrants for the two suspects, Cawthon said.

Cawthon said he's proud of the hard work and determination his deputies showed in identifying and arresting the two McLennan County men.

Two men broke into the couple's home at around 2:30 a.m. Friday near Aquilla, beat up the residents and took phones, an iPad and other items, Hill County Sheriff Michael Cox said.

The elderly man had a gun, but the robbers took it from him, Cox said and beat him severely

After the men left the house, the couple called a ranch hand who fired a shot in the air, Cox said, and then the robbers returned fire.

No one was hit, Cox said.

A 911 call was placed at around 3 a.m. Friday.
