KATY (August 31, 2013)—Harris County deputies think dogs attacked and killed a 96-year-old man in the backyard of his suburban Houston home, where his grandson found his body on Friday.
Juan Campos had injuries consistent with dog bites on his leg,
Harris County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Ben Beall said.
He told the Houston Chronicle that it’s not clear whether Campos had other injuries.
Harris County animal control workers rounded up six dogs in the area.
Campos' grandson Miguel Velasquez says he found his grandfather lying dead on the ground and nearby found Campos' Chihuahua, Chloe, which was also dead.
He said a dog was pacing in the backyard when he arrived and said other dogs were attacking a pet next door.
An autopsy is scheduled and the case would likely be taken before a grand jury, Beall said.
