FORT WORTH (February 1, 2012)—Four dogs that mauled a North Texas toddler have been euthanized and Fort Worth Animal Control officials said the dogs will be tested for rabies.

The 18-month-old boy remained in Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth Wednesday.

The hospital declined to release information about the boy’s condition.

The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office said the boy's grandfather kept seven dogs at the residence near Lakeside.

Officials believe the youngster was attacked Monday after he crawled through a doggie door and into the yard.

Shortly after the attack, the boy's grandmother was arrested during a scuffle with a neighbor who had complained about the dogs.

Lena Grace Brown was charged with assault and bodily injury and was later released after posting a $2,500 bond.

Initial reports Monday indicated the dogs were pit bulls, but a neighbor said four of the seven dogs in the yard were boxers.

Grisham said several neighbors have expressed anger about the dogs, but authorities are still investigating whether there have been previous attacks.
