Rusty Garrett here with the weekend outlook: An isolated shower or thunderstorm remains possible in the hot and humid air this Saturday, the 4th. Same for Sunday...although NOT a wash-out either day!
EL PASO (July 24, 2013)—Authorities have rescued 54 dogs and 1 cat from an El Paso family's home.
The animals were taken to a shelter.
Field Services supervisor Hugo Navarro said animal control officers began investigating after foul odors were reported coming from the house.
Dr. Bernie Page, the city animal shelter's veterinarian, said some of the animals were underfed, but none showed signs of cruelty or abuse.
Authorities will cite the occupants for city ordinance violations, but they don't expect to file criminal charges.
The animals were all living in what Navarro described as an 1,800-square-foot house with three bedrooms and two baths.
Animal Shelter Operations Manager Luis Rios says he's urgently seeking candidates to adopt the animals.
