Driver Dies In 100-Foot Fall From Texas Highway Ramp

HOUSTON (November 5, 2012)—A driver who was involved in a Houston-area wreck that left his car on fire died after he fell about 100 feet from an elevated highway ramp.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office identified the victim of the accident as Joe Campos, Jr.

Authorities said Campos was attempting to take an Interstate 10 exit Sunday night when his car hit a concrete barrier and burst into flames.

Deputies say the impact left the driver's side door stuck.

Investigators say Campos managed to crawl out a window to escape the flames, but lost his balance and fell, tumbling about 100 feet to a lower highway.

Campos was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is under investigation.
