COPPERAS COVE (April 26, 2013)—A driver died early Friday morning after his westbound vehicle veered off U.S. Highway 190, crashed into a building in Copperas Cove and caught fire.
Copperas Cove Leader Press publisher Larry Hauk said the accident happened at about 2:45 a.m.
The building that was hit is right down the street from the Leader Press office.
A news release issued Friday by the Copperas Cove Fire Department says the crash resulted in a fire that spread to the building at 2210 E. Highway 190.
Once firefighters extinguished the fire they found a man inside the car who died in the crash.
The driver was alone in the car and his identity has not yet been released.
The Copperas Cove Fire Marshal and Copperas Cove police were investigating the crash, the release said.
There are at least three companies currently doing business in the office complex, the release said.
The fire gutted Texas State Low Cost Insurance.
Fire officials closed the entire complex while the investigation is ongoing.
A loss estimate isn’t yet available.
No firefighters were injured in the incident, the release said.
