WACO (January 19, 2012)—A man who was trapped in the wreckage of his car after a collision with an 18-wheeler in a busy intersection was taken to a local hospital Thursday afternoon.
The accident happened at around 2:15 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Waco Drive and Valley Mills Drive in Waco.
Police said the Dodge passenger car was southbound on Valley Mills when it was struck on the driver’s side by the 18-wheeler, whose driver was attempting to turn from Valley Mills onto Waco Drive.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the man from the wreckage.
He was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
Information about the severity of his injuries wasn’t immediately available, but police said they didn't appear to be life threatening.
A passenger in the car and the driver of the 18-wheeler weren’t injured.
The accident backed up traffic on both Valley Mills and Waco Drive until the accident scene was cleared.
