Rusty Garrett here with the weekend outlook: Showers and thunderstorms are likely both days. Heavy rainfall and at least some risk of strong to severe storms will be present.
WACO (March 29, 2013)—The Waco Fire Department’s hazmat team was called to help remove a badly decomposed body that a resident discovered Friday in brush in Waco Creek near the 400 block of South 15th Street.
Waco police spokesman Steve Anderson said the body was intertwined in the brush and hard to reach.
Police can't determine the gender of the person and have no idea how long the body has been there, Anderson said.
McLennan County Justice of the Peace Pete Peterson ordered an autopsy, which authorities hope will shed light on the person’s identity, age, gender and race.
Jesus Ruiz, who was at a nearby auto sales shop, told a News 10 photojournalist that a man who lives down the street from the shop found the body.
Ruiz said he and the man went to check and saw an arm sticking on of the brush.
He said he called 911 and that police responded within a matter of minutes.
