SCHERTZ (July 30, 2012)—A head on crash early Monday on Interstate 35 near Schertz about 15 miles northeast of San Antonio left three people dead and five others injured.
Schertz city spokesman Brad Bailey said a woman was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-35 when her car slammed into an SUV.
Then a tanker truck, whose driver steered around the original accident site, struck the woman and a tour bus driver and a rest stop worker who had stopped to help, killing her and the two good Samaritans.
Bailey said five people who were riding in the SUV suffered minor injuries.
Investigators are trying to determine if alcohol played a role in the accident.
The names of the victims weren't immediately released.
