Eight Texas Deputies Out After Inmate Sex Investigation

HOUSTON (October 6, 2012)—Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia says eight of his employees were fired, quit or retired after an internal investigation of sexual misconduct at the county jails.

Garcia says one former employee was fired and indicted in February.

Another supervisor and four detention officers were fired Friday, while a deputy resigned and a supervisor retired during the yearlong investigation.

Garcia didn't identify the disciplined employees, who are accused of having sexual relations with female inmates in jail laundry rooms.

He said, however, that some had been with the sheriff's office for more than 10 years.

He said more surveillance cameras have been installed to prevent a recurrence of such misconduct.
