Elderly Texas Man Gives Intruder A Karate Chop, Holds Him For Police

LEAGUE CITY (December 4, 2012)—Ervin Brittnacher of League City may be 79 years old, but he’s no pushover.

Police say he used a karate chop to disable an intruder and then disarmed the man until officers arrived.

Brittnacher told police noises outside his house awakened him at around 6 a.m. Monday.

When he went to the door, he saw a man armed with a rifle, police
Lt. Bruce Whitten said.

Brittnacher hit the man in the throat with the side of his hand, took the man’s rifle and ordered him to sit down until police arrived, Whitten said.

Charles Brian Smith, 38, of Alvin was charged with attempted burglary.

He was in the Galveston County Jail Tuesday where he was ordered held in lieu of $40,000 bond.
