LAKE CHARLES, La. (March 9, 2013)—Millie Powell, 74, of Port Arthur, has been charged with first-degree vehicular homicide after a passenger in the vehicle she was driving died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in Louisiana.
Louisiana State Police spokesman James Anderson said Powell was initially charged with first-degree vehicular negligent injury after accident on March 1 in which Powell's vehicle collided with the rear of another vehicle on Louisiana Highway 109.
Rubye Jones, 92, also of Port Arthur, who was riding in the car with Powell, was injured and died on March 3.
Powell was charged on the night of the crash with DWI, careless operation, expired driver's license and first-degree vehicular negligent injury.
Her bond was set at $30,000.
