SAN ANTONIO (April 15, 2014) Petra Aguirre, 83, of San Antonio, has died almost two weeks after a neighbor's dog mauled her while she was feeding her cats in the backyard of her home.
Aguirre died Friday from dog bite complications, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
She was attacked March 31.
The American Staffordshire terrier mix was able to get past Aguirre’s fence, Animal Care Services spokeswoman Lisa Norwood said.
The woman was bitten in the head, neck, arms and legs.
The dog was surrendered to Animal Care Services and was euthanized.
The dog's owner was cited.
That dog and two others were involved in an attack in May in which a 13-year-old boy was bitten.
Chris Aguirre told the San Antonio Express-News that his mother, a devout Catholic, taught religious education at St. Gabriel's parish for many years.
