BELTON (August 14, 2014) A former Bell County corrections officer was named Wednesday in an indictment stemming from allegations he had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a county jail inmate.

Marquese Antoine Gates, 25, was indicted for improper sexual activity with a person in custody, Bell County Grand Jury records show.

Gates turned himself into Bell County authorities on July 7 after a warrant was issued for his arrest on the charge.

Gates has remained out of custody on bond since his arrest.

The warrant was issued following an investigation that started on June 26 of allegations of a sexual relationship with a female jail inmate, sheriff's Lt. Donnie Adams said at the time.

Gates, who was hired on Nov. 12, 2013, was fired on June 30, Adams said.
