DALLAS (May 24, 2014) Former Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Kelly Helleson has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to performing illegal body cavity searches on two women last July along a Dallas-area highway.
A statement from the Dallas County District Attorney's Office says Helleson pleaded guilty to two official oppression counts Friday in state district court and was sentenced her to two years of probation and fined her $1,000 on each count.
The case arose from a traffic stop for littering.
No drugs or other illegal substances were found in the searches.
The DPS has settled civil claims made by the two women searched for $185,000.
Helleson was subsequently fired but is appealing.
